Carolyn Kreiter-Foronda
On Thursday, September 17, 2009, at 4pm in the Blechman Reading Room in the Trible Library, former Poet Laureate of Virginia Carolyn Kreiter-Foronda spoke and read from her books. Her presentation included slides and illustrations of her art work.
A reception and book-signing followed the talk.

Linwood Holton
On Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at 3pm in the Blechman Reading Room in the Trible Library, former Virginia Governor Linwood Holton spoke about his published memoir, Opportunity Time.
Holton's book reflects upon his small-town roots in Southwest Virginia, where his father was a railroad executive, as well as his direct and pragmatic approach to political issues. His memoir offers an insider's perspective on Republican Party politics and race relations through the eyes of a groundbreaking politician.
Linwood Holton served as the governor of Virginia from 1970 to 1974 and is a graduate of Washington & Lee University and Harvard Law School. He is currently a director in the Richmond law firm of McCandlish Holton, P.C.
A reception and book-signing followed the talk.
Alex Kershaw
On Thursday, March 26, 2009, author Alex Kershaw came to the area to discuss his book, Escape from the Deep. This event was held at 7pm at The Mariners' Museum. It was co-sponsored by the Friends of the Trible Library, the Mariners' Museum, the Friends of the Mariners' Museum Library, and the Writers' Conference to celebrate the move of The Mariners' Museum Library to the Paul and Rosemary Trible Library.
Alex Kershaw is also the author of The Bedford Boys, The Longest Winter, and The Few, as well as two biographies: Jack London, and Blood and Champagne: The Life and Times of Robert Capa.
Donald McCaig
On Tuesday, November 28, 2008, author Donald McCaig was at Christopher Newport University for a book-signing and talk. By then, his most recent novel, Rhett Butler's People, had spent twelve weeks on the New York Times Bestseller List. He has received the American Library Association Award for best Military Fiction and the John Esten Cooke Award for best Southern Fiction. McCaig was also named an honorary doctor of humanities by Christopher Newport University.
A reception followed the book-signing and talk.
