Mission Statement
In concert with Christopher Newport University’s mission of providing outstanding academic programs for our students, the Trible Library will strive for excellence by providing the highest quality resources and services in support of student learning and faculty teaching and research. The library will attain this excellence by:
- providing users with the easiest access to the broadest possible array of information sources.
- educating students in the use, evaluation and presentation of information.
- supporting faculty in their teaching and research.
- assisting the faculty in the development of creative and innovative uses of information technology in the classroom.
- informing the public of our information resources and assisting them in their use.
- supporting a staff dedicated to serving the students, faculty and staff of Christopher Newport University, CNU alumni, students and faculty of the Tidewater Consortium for Higher Education, and the public.
- engaging in on-going assessment of the role of the academic library in the 21st century.
The following goals guide the Trible Library in the fulfillment of its mission:
- Acquire materials, collections, and services that support the full spectrum of teaching and learning research endeavors at Christopher Newport University.
1a. Provide added value to information sources by cataloging, organizing, and customizing them
1b. Extend information services to make them accessible to the University Community both on and off campus
1c. Pursue opportunities to increase access to collections beyond the Trible Library with cooperation with other libraries
- Develop and retain a highly skilled Library staff who are prepared to meet the needs of Library users in a courteous, accurate, equitable, and professional manner.
- Educate students in evaluating the biases, accuracy, and relevance of information sources, in synthesizing information from diverse sources, and in presenting new knowledge to peers, professors, and outside groups.
- Support faculty by providing operational and technical support and training for Library resources and services.
- Support the faculty and students by providing the skills and expertise to develop high quality, effective learning material in video, graphic, and multimedia formats.
- Maintain dynamic study spaces in the Library which include collaborative and individual rooms and areas.
- Provide appropriate and desired instructional equipment to faculty and students via classroom installations and pools of circulating equipment.
