Area Library Borrowing Privileges for CNU Students, Faculty and Staff

CNU is a member of the Virginia Tidewater Consortium and CNU students, faculty, and staff are therefore eligible to borrow material from college and university libraries in the area. Some restrictions may apply, and you will need a valid CNU I.D. card plus a Virginia Tidewater Consortium card. Present both of these cards when you visit area libraries.

Getting the Card

To get your Virginia Tidewater Consortium card, you must go to the Circulation Desk in Trible Library. Once there, ask for the application form and fill it out completely. Please note that if you have any "delinquencies" at Trible Library (overdue books or fines outstanding) you will not receive the Consortium card until these are cleared.

After turning in the application, you will be given a brochure explaining the borrowing program - here are a couple of things to remember:

  • You must have both your CNU I.D. and the Consortium card to borrow materials from other member libraries.
  • You should observe all policies of the lending library, including the return of all materials within the specified loan period - which may be different from the policies at Trible Library.

It is a privilege to borrow materials from member libraries. Failure to comply with the rules and regulations of the lending libraries, including prompt return of materials and/or payment of charges will result in sanctions by both the home and lending institutions. In addition, consortium borrowing privileges at all member libraries will be suspended.

The Virginia Tidewater Consortium card is good for only the current semester. If you find that you need access to other area libraries' materials next semester, you will need to apply for a new Consortium card.

Member libraries include: College of William & Mary, Hampton University, Norfolk State University, Old Dominion University, Regent University, Thomas Nelson Community College, Tidewater Community College, and Virginia Wesleyan College. Eastern Virginia Medical School will only loan materials to graduate students.

If you have any questions about the Virginia Tidewater Consortium card or borrowing privileges, please call Mary Sellen, University Librarian, at 757-594-7130.
