The CNU Bookstore sold copies of Amy Tan’s five best-selling novels, as well as her memoir and children’s books. Amy Tan signs a book for a young fan of Sagwa, her children’s book and Emmy-nominated television series for children. Best-selling author Amy Tan signed copies of any of the books that she had authored for 30 minutes following her author talk.

A Harlem Renaissance Evening at the Newport News Main Street Library on May 1 included the opening of an art exhibit of paintings of Eatonville, Zora Neale Hurston’s hometown; Dr. Daryl C. Dance, professor of literature at the University of Richmond, discussing Hurston and her love of folklore; Bobby “Black Hat” Waters, blues performer and songwriter, playing harmonica tunes; and refreshments from the Harlem Renaissance era.
