A Harlem Renaissance Evening at the Newport News Main Street Library on May 1 included the opening of an art exhibit of paintings of Eatonville, Zora Neale Hurston’s hometown; Dr. Daryl C. Dance, professor of literature at the University of Richmond, discussing Hurston and her love of folklore; Bobby “Black Hat” Waters, blues performer and songwriter, playing harmonica tunes; and refreshments from the Harlem Renaissance era.
